The code arrives as a text message

Once your identity is matched, a six digit code is texted to the phone number your institution holds for you. The code lasts five minutes. Codes cannot be requested one after another; a short wait sits between them. Part of the number is shown back so you can see where it went.

How it is done today

A sign-in built on the assumption of a smartphone and a steady internet connection does not reach a great many students and parents in Bangladesh. A text message arrives on a basic handset, and it arrives when the data has run out, which is what makes it the dependable way to send a code.

How it works

  1. 1

    Match your identity first

The code step follows on from choosing your institution and matching your ID.

  2. 2

    Check the masked number

Part of the number is shown so you can see where the code is going. Check that it is yours.

  3. 3

    Read the text message

The six digit code arrives by SMS. It lasts five minutes and stops working after that.

  4. 4

Ask again if you need to

A code can be requested again, but not immediately. Asking too soon comes back telling you to wait.

What runs on its own, what stays in your hands

What happens automatically

Once identity is matched the code is generated on its own and texted to the number the institution holds, with nobody having to send it.

What you control

Which number the code goes to comes from the institution's own records, and nothing on the account changes until the person holds that code.

Frequently asked questions

Does the code come through WhatsApp?

No. The code is sent by SMS, so it reaches a basic handset without any app installed and without an internet connection.

How long does the code last?

Five minutes. Unused after that it stops working, and a new one has to be requested.

What if I ask for codes one after another?

Asking again too soon is refused with a note to wait, and you are told how long it will be before you can ask again.

What if the message cannot be sent at all?

A failure to deliver is reported rather than hidden, with an invitation to try again, so nobody is left waiting for a message that never left.
