A power cut does not mean starting the exam again

If the connection or the power goes while a student is taking a ClassTablet quiz, they log back in and return to the same attempt rather than starting over. The answers already sent are still in place, and coming back does not count as another attempt against their limit.

How it is done today

Load shedding partway through an exam, or mobile data running out, is ordinary here rather than exceptional. If a student comes back to find their work gone or one of their attempts burned, the institution gets the blame, and the teacher ends up arranging something separate for that one student.

How it works

  1. 1

Log back in when the connection returns

The student signs back in to ClassTablet and opens the same quiz from their own classroom. There is no separate link or code needed to get back in.

  2. 2

You land in the same attempt

Where an attempt is still in progress, ClassTablet returns the student to it instead of opening a new one, so the quiz does not have to be taken again from the first question.

  3. 3

    Earlier answers come back

The attempt reopens with the answers that had already reached the server, so in most cases nothing beyond the last few seconds of work is missing.

  4. 4

    Check the time left

A time limit keeps running against the attempt, so coming back later means less time in hand. The timer at the top shows exactly how much remains.

What runs on its own, what stays in your hands

What happens automatically

When the student returns, the attempt still in progress is found and reopened for them automatically, with nothing to press and no code to enter.

What you control

The teacher does nothing and does not have to reopen anything. They only set the time limit and the number of attempts when building the quiz.

What it looks like

Sample screen: a quiz reopened mid-attempt with earlier answers in place and the remaining time above.

Frequently asked questions

Does coming back use up an attempt?

No. The attempt count only goes down when a new attempt is started. Returning to one that is still in progress makes no difference to how many the student has left.

Do I get back the time I was offline?

No. A time limit runs against the attempt, so the minutes spent offline count too. That is why it is worth getting back in as soon as the connection returns.

Can I come back on a different device?

Yes. The attempt and the answers live on the server rather than on the device, so the student can sign in on any phone or computer with their account and carry on there.

Do I need to tell the teacher?

Not to get back in, because nothing needs reopening. If the time limit has already run out, though, talking to the teacher is the only way forward.
