From opening a batch to putting it away
Creating a classroom generates its join code automatically, and that code is how students enrol. The name, subjects and other details can be changed afterwards. When a batch finishes, the classroom can be archived out of the active list and made active again later if it is needed.
The pages below take each stage of a classroom's life separately, including where an institution's own permission comes into it.
Features in this area
- Stop keeping quizzes and assignments in two places
A batch's quizzes and assignments come up in a single list, which can be filtered by what is coming up, what still needs marking and what is a draft.
- Know which batch is in class right now
Every running batch on one page. Each card carries its subjects, its class times, how many people are waiting to join and how many fees are still unpaid.
- Keep the timetable somewhere it stays correct
A batch's classes sit on a calendar, merged with anything cancelled or moved, so the day's real timetable is visible and classes that no longer run come off.
- One batch, one page, nothing scattered
Opening a classroom lays out its announcements, classes, assessments and recordings as tabs, and works out first which of those tabs you are allowed to see.
- Keep last year's batches out of this year's list
Set a finished batch's classroom to archived. It leaves the active list and moves into the separate list of archived classrooms, ready to come back.
- Give a new batch a place of its own on day one
Open a classroom for a new batch. Its join code is generated for you and checked against the ones in use, so no two batches ever share a code.
- You do not have to get it all right on day one
Change a batch's name, subjects or other details later from the classroom's edit page. There is no need to open a fresh classroom to fix a mistake.
- One code, and the student is in the batch
A student types the code their teacher gave them into their own account and is enrolled, seeing that batch's announcements and work from then on.
- Ask for it when the permission is switched off
Where an institution has switched off teachers opening classrooms, send a request instead. Every administrator at that institution is notified.
- Bring an old batch back when you need it again
Bring any old batch back from the archived classrooms list. The classroom becomes active again and returns to the list you work from every day.
Frequently asked questions
Does archiving delete the classroom?
No. Archiving moves the classroom out of the active list. It stays in a list of its own and can be made active again whenever you want it back.
Can any teacher open a classroom?
That depends on the institution's own policy. An administrator can switch off teachers opening classrooms themselves, in which case a teacher asks for permission instead.
Can I choose the classroom's join code?
No. The code is generated when the classroom is created and checked against existing ones, so two batches never end up sharing a code.
