Getting phone photos ready to be read
Before a script is sent for marking, the camera's own orientation is applied so the page sits upright, and large images are scaled down where that is needed. The scaling steps deliberately stop while Bangla conjuncts are still clearly separated from each other.
How it is done today
Scripts are photographed on a phone, not scanned. Images arrive sideways, they are large, and a batch of pages can be too big to send at once. A sideways page reads as illegible handwriting rather than as a rotated image, so a good answer loses marks for no reason.
How it works
- 1
Apply the camera's orientation
The rotation flag the phone stores with the photo is applied, so a sideways page is not mistaken for unreadable handwriting.
- 2
Scaled down, never up
Large images are brought within a set size. Small ones are not enlarged, because enlarging adds no detail.
- 3
Step by step, with Bangla in mind
If a batch is too large, the size steps down gradually. The steps are chosen to stop well before Bangla conjuncts begin closing up.
- 4
Pages are never dropped quietly
If even the smallest step does not fit, the request is sent anyway. A visible failure beats a script marked on half its pages.
What the AI agent does, what you approve
What the AI agent does
Straightening, sizing and stepping down all happen before sending, with nothing for anyone to do by hand.
What you approve
There is no image editing for the teacher. They only need to check the pages were photographed properly.

Frequently asked questions
Are crooked photos straightened?
Only the camera's own 90-degree rotation is corrected. We do not claim to straighten a photo taken at a slight angle, so it is worth keeping pages roughly square to the camera.
Are pages put back into the right order?
No. Pages stay in the order they were sent. We do not claim to reorder them, so the order matters when you photograph them.
Does scaling down make the writing harder to read?
That is exactly why the steps are limited. Scaling stops well before the point where Bangla conjuncts start to close up.
What if a large batch still will not fit?
No pages are dropped quietly. If stepping down still does not fit, the request goes anyway so the problem is visible to the teacher rather than hidden.
