Grade against the rubric, with no save button to remember
In ClassTablet a teacher opens one student's work from the submissions list, scores each criterion the rubric defines and writes feedback. The rubric total adds up beside you as you go, and everything saves itself a moment after you stop typing, so there is no save button to remember.
How it is done today
Once the work is handed in, a teacher marks it one piece at a time, but nothing records which part of it earned what. When a student asks why they got that mark there is nothing to point at, and when two teachers judge similar work differently, explaining it to a parent becomes guesswork.
How it works
- 1
Open the submissions list
The Assignment Submissions page for that assignment lists who has handed in, and anything that arrived after the due date is tagged Late Submission.
- 2
Open one student's work
Picking a submission opens the student's text, link or file alongside the marking panel, and you can move from one submission to the next without going back to the list.
- 3
Score each rubric criterion
For every criterion you set when building the assignment, with its own maximum points, choose a score. The rubric total is worked out and shown as you go.
- 4
Set the overall mark and feedback
Give an overall score within the assignment's total points and add written feedback if you want to. The evaluation cannot be finalised until the overall score is set.
What runs on its own, what stays in your hands
What happens automatically
The rubric total is calculated for you as you score, and each change saves itself a moment after you stop typing, with anything pending flushed before you leave the page.
What you control
Every mark is the teacher's. Which criterion gets what, and the overall score, are all set by the person marking.

Frequently asked questions
Does the student see the mark straight away?
No. For now the score and feedback stay with the teacher and are not shown on the student's page, so telling a class their results is a separate step.
Can I grade without a rubric?
Yes. Without a rubric you simply give an overall score and feedback. With one, each criterion is scored separately, which makes it clear to the student where they lost marks.
What if my browser closes mid-marking?
Nothing is lost. Scores and feedback save themselves shortly after you stop typing, and anything still pending is sent before you navigate away from the page.
Are late submissions marked down automatically?
No. ClassTablet tags work handed in after the due date as a Late Submission so you can see it, but it never deducts marks on its own. What that is worth is the teacher's call.
