Download the template and lay out your student list

In ClassTablet the admin downloads a CSV template from the first step of the Bulk add users page. It has columns such as name, email, phone_number, role, institution_id and academic_level, plus a few sample student and teacher rows. Open it in Excel, paste your own list in and save, and the file is ready to upload.

How it is done today

Most institutions keep their student list in a register book or in whatever Excel sheet each teacher made: one has only names and rolls, another has phone numbers typed as notes. Moving to new software starts with the question of which column needs what, and days go on phone calls and meetings to find out.

How it works

  1. 1

    Start from the member list

In the admin dashboard, the Bulk add button above the users list opens the four-step import page.

  2. 2

    Download the template

In step one, next to "Don't have a file ready?", Download template saves a CSV file named classtablet-import-template.

  3. 3

    Follow the sample rows

The file has sample rows for two students, two teachers and a parent. Delete them and type in your own students' names, phone numbers and rolls.

  4. 4

    Fill in the required cells

Every row needs a name, and an email or a phone number. Put student or teacher in the role column to bring both groups in with one file.

What it looks like

Frequently asked questions

Is the template available as an Excel file?

It downloads as a CSV, which opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets. Once it is filled in, you can save it as .csv or .xlsx and upload either.

Can we add students who have no email address?

Yes. Many students have no email, so a phone number is enough. Each row needs a name and either an email or a phone number.

Do we have to copy our old spreadsheet into the template?

No. You can upload your own file too, and the next step matches its columns to ClassTablet's fields. The template just makes the job easier.

Who can download the template?

The institution admin. Bulk import as a whole is for admin accounts; the page does not open for teacher or student accounts.
