Classes on Zoom without sharing the password
In ClassTablet the institution admin connects the institution's own Zoom account and gives each licensed Zoom user to a teacher as their host. In a classroom set to Zoom, saving a class creates the Zoom link for the whole weekly series. After class, attendance and the cloud recording come back from Zoom into the classroom.
Zoom integration is part of the Custom plan, and the Zoom account stays the institution's own. An admin connects the institution's Zoom account, then assigns a teacher as host.
Features in this area
- Keep the Zoom account in the institution's own name
Create a Server-to-Server OAuth app in Zoom, paste its account ID, client ID, secret and webhook token here, and ClassTablet verifies and registers it.
- Only licensed users become hosts
Once an account verifies, ClassTablet lists the licensed users on that Zoom account so you can pick the ones who will host classes and leave the rest out.
- Do not leave dead Zoom accounts on the list
Remove an account you no longer use from its row menu. Its hosts and any saved Zoom sign-ins go with it, so check first who will be left without one.
- A mismatched token means no attendance and no recordings
When the secret token changes in Zoom, use Update webhook secret in the row menu to paste the new one, or Zoom's Validate step keeps failing.
- Assign the host, not the password
Pick a name in the Assigned to cell of the hosts table and that teacher can run Zoom classes. Choose Unassigned to free the host up for somebody else.
- Find out Zoom is broken today, not on the day of the class
Re-verify in the row menu makes ClassTablet talk to Zoom again to check the credentials and scopes still work, then updates the account's status.
- Nobody reads the password, it is only copied
Sign in to Zoom on the class scheduling sheet opens Zoom's sign-in page in a new tab and copies the host's password to the clipboard without showing it.
- Which Zoom host belongs to whom, in one table
The Zoom page in Dashboard settings lists each registered Zoom account, its host, who the host is assigned to, and whether the account is active or expired.
- Find out whether you hold a Zoom host while setting the class up
On a Zoom classroom, the class scheduling sheet shows which Zoom host is assigned to you, along with a button for signing in to the desktop app.
- See which hosts are free before class time
Every Zoom host across the institution's accounts is listed with whoever currently holds it, including the accounts that have no host set up yet.
Frequently asked questions
Does ClassTablet supply the paid Zoom licence?
No. The Zoom account and its licences belong to the institution. ClassTablet connects to that account to make links, fetch attendance and bring recordings into the classroom.
How many teachers can teach on one Zoom licence?
Each Zoom host is assigned to one person. When connecting the account the admin sees the list of licensed users and makes as many of them hosts as needed.
Do teachers need the Zoom password?
No. When a teacher presses Start Class in ClassTablet, a fresh one-time host link opens and they become host without logging in. The admin can store sign-in details for the desktop app if wanted.
